Lay people designated by the Bishop may distribute Holy Communion at Mass. Formal training, conducted by the Diocese, is required prior to serving in this ministry.
Purpose: Assist in the distribution of Holy Communion during Mass.
Responsibilities: Be present at Masses as scheduled.
Helpful Attributes: Belief in the True Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist, strong commitment to Christ and the Church as evidenced by a life lived in conformity with all that the Church teaches.
Time Commitment: Varies depending on the liturgy; arrival at least 20 minutes before Mass is strongly encouraged.
Training Required: Diocesan training is required in order to be issued a mandate by the Bishop. Mandates must be renewed every five years.
