Bereavement Ministry provides companionship and support to those who are grieving the loss of a loved one. Members of this ministry plan the funeral liturgy with the family, provide a luncheon after the funeral if the family wishes and provide ongoing support through a grief recovery series.
Planning the Funeral
Purpose: Assist families in the planning of the funeral Mass
Responsibilities: Contact families to assist in choosing Mass readings and music.
Helpful Attributes: Empathy and good communication and listening skills.
Time Commitment: Variable depending on the frequency of funerals.
Training Required: Partnering with experienced planners.

Receptions
Important: To schedule a Funeral Reception, please call the church office at (352) 629-8092!
Purpose: Provide food and fellowship for family and friends after the funeral.
Responsibilities: Prepare tables and serve food and drinks after the funeral Mass.
Helpful Attributes: Friendliness and a desire to be of service
Time Commitment: Approximately 4 1/2 hours for each reception
Training Required: Working with experienced servers

Grief Support
Purpose: Provide ongoing support for those who are grieving.
Responsibilities: Facilitate a structured grief support program that also addresses individual issues.
Helpful Attributes: Empathy, good communication and listening skills.
Time Commitment: Two-hour sessions for 8 weeks.
Training Required: Mentoring with current grief support facilitators.
